Summary:
-
“Mensa SIGHT is the address for traveling people, besides the regular travel agency, the local tourist office and the internet. SIGHT stands for Services for Information, Guidance and Hospitality to Travelers and mediates in contacts between traveling Mensans and Mensans who offer other Mensans facilities. Most of the about 50 national Mensa's in the world have a SIGHT coordinator.”
There is a lot of information about SIGHT on a range of Mensa web pages. Rather than repeat that information, this article is intended to provide you with links to almost everything your want or need to know about SIGHT. If you have any questions, please contact me at sight@mensa.org.au
Some benefits of using SIGHT:
-
Meet Mensans on your travels. In my travels in July 2023, I contacted the SIGHT Coordinator in each of Sweden and Denmark, and joined local Mensa gatherings in those countries.
-
The country SIGHT coordinator gave be guidance on how to join the local Mensa Facebook groups to help me see which local events were happening, and to enable me to interact with locals.
-
I also was able to link up with a French Mensan travelling in Sweden via the SIGHT Facebook Group.
-
-
Stay with Mensans on your travels. When Kymberley Wilson was travelling in Germany and Czech Republic last July, she stayed with SIGHT hosts. Accommodation can be available with some SIGHT hosts.
-
With SIGHT, you can make friends with fellow Mensans interstate and around the world - anywhere you are travelling to.
-
Henkhenk Broekhuizen, one of the international SIGHT coordinators gave a presentation on SIGHT at EMAG in Rotterdam in early August this year. That Powerpoint presentation is https://tinyurl.com/m2hdbpjx . Henkhenk said that he had made many wonderful Mensan friends around the world through SIGHT.
-
The US SIGHT coordinator’s (Bill Zigo) latest SIGHT presentation is https://tinyurl.com/4ne3usf2 – LibreOffice or OpenOffice format.
Your travels can be much-enhanced if you take advantage of SIGHT. Please also consider volunteering as a SIGHT host, which is another great way to make new Mensa friends.

Being on the SIGHT Map:
-
can simply be to offer your contact details - so that other Mensans can contact you.
-
This can be particularly valuable for regional Aussie Mensans, seeking to connect with Mensans near them.
-
-
It can be just indicating that you are happy to meet up for just coffee or be be available to offer local information as with Ivan below.
-
Or you can indicate that you are are happy to offer just be a local guide. Or you offer a bed for the night.
What you offer is entirely up to you. And when a Mensan contacts you via SIGHT, you are under no obligations to offer anything - if for example, it does not feel right for you. Bill Zigo's US SIGHT presentation goes into this in detail. https://tinyurl.com/4ne3usf2

The level of detail that can be added to your SIGHT Map profile is as indicated in the form below.
