Mensa value to members.

This site is a work in progress

"The three stated purposes of Mensa are always the same, no matter where in the world your national Mensa organisation happens to be:

  • to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity;

  • to encourage research into the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence;

  • to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members."

What are the benefits of joining Mensa?

    • Mensa get-togethers are anything but dull! All over the world, groups of fun-loving Mensans congregate on a regular basis for lively conversations over dinner and drinks, for intellectual discussions and debates on a diverse range of topics, and for get-togethers featuring a speaker. Some groups have activities throughout the month, some meet weekly, and others, especially the larger groups, have events nearly every day. Of course, participation in local group activities is always entirely your choice. And you can turn up as often or as seldom as you like.

    • We recommend getting involved in the Mensa community scene from the get-go. It's the quickest and most fun way to meet people and make new friends.

    • Here’s what some members say about being part of the Mensa community:

      • It is an honour to be a member of Mensa. From the very first moment, my eyes have been sparkling: finally, I arrived in a place where people share similar thoughts, say similar puns, have similar associations like I have. Naturally, I also see the differences: different characters, attutudes and views - some of these I embrace, others I reject, but this makes the world complete. We cannot be different in the same wayGeorge, 44

      • Originally, I just wanted to have my IQ tested. I guess I was looking for some external reinforcement. I thought I would never have the time to attend programmes as I had two young children. Out of curiosity, I finally joined Mensa - and I have been a member for 14 years now. I found a great community, interesting activities, lots of love - and, eventually, a husband as well! Eve, 48

    • There are many reasons why people decide to join Mensa, including the chance to meet new people, the opportunity to attend special events and the society’s publications. But don’t just take our word for it, discover what our members enjoy about being part of the society - Meet Our Members.

People who join Mensa have felt "different" than most people through their lives ... because they are. This interview with Dr Angelicashie explains why.

This is why Mensa is important.  Mensa is important because Mensa is one of the few places where we can meet people like us ..... where people like us are "normal" - and it is egalitarian.

Our members are our most valuable resource.

Mensa facilitates the connection between Mensans - sharing ideas - making friends.

Nearly half of Australia's members are children - and we have state-base Gifted Children Coordinators as coordinators for the parents of our Mensa children.  Mensa’s value for gifted children & their parents: "Mensa offers valuable opportunities for gifted children to play, learn, socialize, and collaborate with peers who think and learn like they do -  a need often unmet in regular school settings. Additionally, Mensa serves as a supportive community for parents of gifted children, enabling them to discuss both the rewards and challenges of raising High-IQ children with others who understand and share similar experiences. It also offers resources and support to parents navigating the complexities of giftedness, often a topic not extensively covered in professional training."

But people like us also often have "issues" - including our Mensa children. That is another reason why Mensa is important - for both adult Mensans and for our Mensa children.
